چکیده

Abstract The foremost concern of a modern risk manager is to estimate Value-at-Risk (VaR), that is the maximum loss likely to occur over the next two weeks for a given confidence level. Although widely spread as a standard measure for quantifying market risk, most of the techniques involved in measuring VaR are based on unrealistic assumptions. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the deficiencies of these techniques and to illustrate the exact steps for the estimation of portfolio– VaR according to all basic methods, namely, the variance-covariance (VC), the historical simulation method (HS) and the Monte Carlo simulation method (MC). Furthermore, the paper examines the accuracy of both the HS and the MC methods according to the Basel regulatory framework.

Letter to Editor: Positive predictive value of diabetes mellitus risk assessment

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is an important public health challenge [1 ].Different studies predicted that the frequency of diabetic patients will be increased to 642 million throughout the world by 2040 [2]. A notable percentage of diabetic patients are not aware of their disease (approximately 30% in Iran) [3]. Lag in the diagnosis of DM raises the expense of controlling disease and makes the progn...

Estimation of Value at Risk (VaR) Based On Lévy-GARCH Models: Evidence from Tehran Stock Exchange

This paper aims to estimate the Value-at-Risk (VaR) using GARCH type models with improved return distribution. Value at Risk (VaR) is an essential benchmark for measuring the risk of financial markets quantitatively. The parametric method, historical simulation, and Monte Carlo simulation have been proposed in several financial mathematics and engineering studies to calculate VaR, that each of ...

The Compatibility of Students’ Personality for Studying Nursing and Working in their Profession

Introduction. The high rate of attrition among nursing students and their lack of interest for continuing their profession have caused some nursing leaders to think about the necessity of considering the students’ personality during the process of admission to nursing schools. Due to the lack of studies on Iranian nursing students’ personality, this study was designed to determine the freshmen'...

Optimal Portfolio Selection for Tehran Stock Exchange Using Conditional, Partitioned and Worst-case Value at Risk Measures

This paper presents an optimal portfolio selection approach based on value at risk (VaR), conditional value at risk (CVaR), worst-case value at risk (WVaR) and partitioned value at risk (PVaR) measures as well as calculating these risk measures. Mathematical solution methods for solving these optimization problems are inadequate and very complex for a portfolio with high number of assets. For t...

Comparison of Performance of Traditional Value at Risk Models with Switching Model in Tehran Stock Exchange

The problem of portfolio optimization has made many advances since Markowitz proposed an average-variance-based optimization. It can be said that the most important achievement of the Markowitz model was the introduction of variance as a risk indicator and indeed, the introduction of a quantitative benchmark into it. This research is a model for predicting value at risk. This model extends the ...
